Tinker Juarez Takes Second at Mt. Washington!
Posted on 8/23/2010
Ageless Tinker Juarez toed the line this past weekend as he usually does these days, the oldest guy in the group going against fresh young racers. For his first time up Mount Washington, Tinker made it count, beating most of those young racers on his way to second place in one of the most grueling climbing efforts in the world. Tinker finished the 7.6 mile climb (the highest in New England) in 58:08, 42 seconds behind winner Nico Toutenhoofd
"It was good to turn things around after the bummer last weekend at Leadville. The Super Six was great. I got it set up with a SRAM Red group with a compact crank and perfect gearing. There were some funny bikes out there but I went with the tried and true," said Tinker. "The organizers were excited I came and already looking forward to next year. Maybe I'll find a way to take just a little weight off the stock setup." For the legendary Juarez, long-rumored to have trained with rocks in a backpack to weigh him down, it seems that time and weight are not a problem.
